Ways to verify your parking lot listing's location

Drivers should feel confident that a parking lot listing is real and where it says it is. That's why we ask lot owners to verify their listing's location.

What verification involves

To verify your parking lot's location, you must show that:

  • The parking lot is real
  • It's at the address you've listed
  • You (or someone you authorize) have access to it

Find more about how the verification process works for lot owners or read about verification from the driver perspective.

If you're required to verify your listing's location, we'll notify you and specify which verification method(s) are available for your listing. Not all methods are available to every lot owner.

Whatever method you use, we'll let you know within 24 hours if your listing is verified or if we need more information.

Method 1: Take 2 photos

Use the Garaje app to take 2 new photos outside and inside of your parking lot. The inside photo must match a specific photo of the same area from your photo tour.

Before you start:

  • Enable precise location sharing and camera permissions
  • Be connected to Wi-Fi or have strong cell service
  • Make sure your listing address and map pin are correct

Note: Garaje may use your location data to match your device's location with your listing.

Method 2: Record 3 videos

Use your phone's video camera to record three short videos (under 20 seconds each):

  1. Inside the parking lot, showing the parking spaces and exiting the main entrance
  2. Outside, showing the front entrance and signage of your parking lot
  3. Nearby, showing a street sign, nearest intersection, or one within two blocks

Before you start:

Make sure the info you entered for your parking lot listing's location and map pin are correct.

  • Each video must show a unique code. Before you begin, you'll be given a unique 4-digit code that will need to be visible in each video. We suggest you write the code on paper (big enough to be visible on camera) and hold it up in each video.
  • Your face must appear briefly in each video. If your phone doesnt allow you to switch between exterior mode (rear facing) and selfie mode (front facing) while taking a video, you can flip the phone around to capture your face.
  • Upload saved videos. Once youre ready, you can upload the videos from any location. You can upload up to 100 MB per video.

  7. Show your unique 4-digit code (provided in the instructions) and a brief view of your face in all 3 videos
  8. Go back to your listing and click Edit listing and click Submit videos
  9. Select each video from your phone's gallery and click Upload
  10. When all 3 videos have been uploaded, click Submit

Method 3: Ask someone else to verify

Live in a different city from your parking lot? If you're prompted to match photos or record videos but can't go to your listing yourself, you can ask someone else to help you verify your listing's location with photos or videos.

  • They must have their own Garaje account and the latest version of the Garaje app
  • They need to enable precise location sharing and camera permissions
  • Provide their email address and well send them instructions

Note: They won't be granted access to your Garaje account nor any of your lot owner settings.

Other methods we may use for verification

Most lot owners who are prompted can verify their parking lot listings location with photos or videos, but there are additional methods.

Verification by documentation

In some situations, we may request documentation instead of on-site verification.

If we ask you to provide documentation, you'll take a photo of a qualifying document or upload one you have on file. The image or file must include the entire page—a partial page won't do. A qualifying document is one that:

  • Officially connects you to the listing address, such as a business permit, parking lot lease agreement, property tax document, or parking operation license
  • Clearly displays your name (or business name) and the full, correct listing address
  • Hasn't been altered in any way
  • Is fewer than 60 days old (most documents) or fewer than 365 days old (lease agreements only)
  • Is a .png, .jpg, .jpeg, or .pdf file that's less than 10 MB

We'll review the document and let you know within 24 hours whether we can confirm the address. If your document is unable to be confirmed, you can try again up to 5 times.

Verification by security code

In some places, for example where it's required to comply with local rules, you may be asked to verify a listing using a security code sent by mail.

How it works:

  • A letter with a unique code will be mailed to your listing's address
  • Enter the code online at the provided URL within 60 days of receiving the letter
  • Results typically appear within minutes

To qualify:

  • The listing's address must be able to accept mail from an official postal service, not just a package carrier
  • You must be able to retrieve mail within the timeframe
  • Letter must be sent to the listing address only

If you don't receive the letter within 3 weeks, contact us for a new one.

If you have any issues with the code, check that you've entered it correctly and that your letter is fewer than 60 days old. If you have multiple listings that need to be verified, make sure that you're entering the right code for the right listing—the listing's title is at the top of your letter.

Note: You must be logged in to your Garaje account to enter your security code. If youre unable to pick up your mail, a property manager or another authorized person may do so for you and provide you with the URL and code on the letter. We strongly discourage sharing your password.

Troubleshooting listing verification

Having trouble? Here are some tips for troubleshooting parking lot listing verification.

  • Make sure your device's location services are enabled and set to precise location
  • Check that your camera permissions are enabled in your device settings
  • Ensure you have a strong internet connection (Wi-Fi or cellular data)
  • Verify that your listing address and map pin are accurate in your account settings
  • If uploading videos, ensure each video is under 100 MB and shows the required code and your face
  • For documentation, make sure the entire document is visible and clearly readable
